Employee Spotlight: Jesse Dupuis

What was your major in college?
I majored in psychology at The George Washington University.

What was your first job?
My parents owned a diner in Providence and I helped out by washing dishes.

Who trained you?
I was exposed to different aspects of the business from the start. I’ve learned about inventory from Dayle (Swerling Burke). I’ve been to building losses with Bryan (Holtzman). I’ve learned about sales from Adam (Swerling) and Jeff (Winnick). I’ve also gotten to learn the inner workings of the office.

What’s been your favorite part of the job?
Seeing how personal property is handled was the most interesting to me. Seeing how in depth we go into the PP is different than a building claim that’s more universal. The job I was brought in to do is just starting now. Up to now, it was learning all the pieces to sell it well.

What’s the most challenging part?
Being in a freezing cold house is challenging – there’s definitely a physical aspect to this job.

What’s the most memorable or most rewarding loss you’ve worked on?
The church claim we’re handling – it’s a very statuesque building and there’s a lot of damage. It’s wildly dangerous in there. I generally like avoiding being hit in the head by falling beams, but I appreciate the excitement of it a little bit. I ride a motorcycle but I wear a helmet, ya know?

What are your hobbies?
I work out a lot. I play poker frequently. I ride my motorcycle often – usually in the Blue Hills area.

What’s your favorite sports team?
The Bruins.

What was the last concert you went to?
The Roots at the House of Blues.

Favorite Food/Restaurant?
The sushi at Uni.

What’s the worst trend you participated in?
I had long hair as a kid.

How do you motivate others? How do others motivate you?
I’m generally an upbeat person; I try to encourage others. I’m most motivated by seeing others passionately doing their job and doing it well.

What would your best friends say is your best quality? What would colleagues say is your best quality?
I’m very honest and reliable, and I’m always on time.

Name a time when you did the right thing and no one saw.
I try to do nice things a couple of times a week as I believe in cosmic karma. Most recently, I bought a sandwich for a man outside Bon Me begging for money. I’ve also run after many people leaving restaurants who left their purses behind. Small acts of kindness are important to me.

Favorite vacation spot.
I like St. Thomas a lot. It offers you a lot of everything and the beaches are beautiful.

What is your daily attire?
Business casual.

Favorite TV show?
Currently, I like Succession. The West Wing is one of my all-time faves.

Do you like Audio books or reading books?
I like reading actual books.

Favorite book?
Lately, it’s a lot of non-fiction – 4x trading and poker books. As a kid I loved science fiction – my favorite series is The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan.

If you could have any superpower, what would you choose?
The ability to read minds.

If you could pick a new first name, what would it be?
I like my name.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Kate Moss.

How do you maintain a work/life balance?
It’s important to set time aside when you’re not working. You need to block time off and not budge about it – be available to work most of the time, but not all the time. I think that’s the only way to maintain the balance.

If you could have dinner with anyone alive or dead, who would it be?:
Stephen Hawking; I was a fan.

What athlete would you like to meet?
Lewis Hamilton; I’m a big Formula 1 fan.

What’s on your bucket list?
I want to go to the Grand Prix Montreal – Montreal is the perfect place to see a car race. And I’d like to see the running of the bulls in Pamplona.

Any pets?
I have a cat named Milo, but he goes by Chonk.
